    RESTORATION

The Wisconsin State Capitol building is awe-inspiring from one end to the other, and you can’t go through it without touching some of our handiwork.

If you get a chance to visit the building, take a minute to appreciate the doors.  There are hundreds in the building, with two knobs each. Nearly every set is embellished with the state seal.  On each set we used a tool the size of a pencil to  highlight the state motto, the curls of the banner, the miner’s hat and pickaxe, the sailor’s rope, the badger’s back, the blade of the plow, the edges of the shield…I’m writing this description fifteen years after the job was finished and pulling each of those details from memory.  If you look for yourself, you’ll see others that I forgot.

In addition to the doorknobs, there are three hinges per door, most of which disassemble into twelve separate components. Add to this all the other miscellaneous door hardware and every heating grate in the building.  We refinished them all and did not lose track of a single piece.
