RESTORATION
Six bronze cathedral doors, splashed every winter by busy traffic on heavily salted streets. We removed them from site and brought them to our shop: they were H E A V Y.
We completely disassembled them to strip old lacquer and remove corrosion from all the nooks and crannies. Every visible surface was given a brushed satin finish and multiple corrosion-inhibiting clear coats. The jambs and window arches were restored onsite.
Challenge 1: every piece had to go back to original location they only fit in one place. Luckily we had experience from the WI State Capitol restoration on this....
Challenge 2: Did I mention that they were heavy? Because they were. Really heavy. Also, they weighed a lot.
Best complement, we were told that some parishioners asked why new doors were purchased? They thought the church was restoring the originals
